A hidden gem

Alterations and additions to an existing home in Castlecrag. The brief from the client was loose: a liking of things mid-century modern, and a desire to be part of the journey – to learn about the design and construction process.

Located within the Griffin Heritage Conservation Area of Castlecrag, the decision was made to make the new addition to the house contemporary in style and form, but keep it unobtrusive from the street.

The stunning open plan living areas reflect the way we live now, while a new centrally positioned fireplace gives a nod to an era of defined spaces and their uses. The landscaped backyard completes our client’s lush oasis.

The scope included a new kitchen, living and dining area at ground floor with master bedroom and associated terrace at the upper level. The three existing bedrooms and bathrooms in the original house were also fully refurbished.

Greenbox provided a full service: concept design, planning approval, detail design, tender documents, tender review and recommendation, site attendance and contract administration.

Project details

Client: Private home
Location: Castlecrag, NSW, Australia
Size: 250 sqm

The decision was made to make the new addition to the house contemporary in style and form, but keep it unobtrusive from the street.

“The client liked the modest nature of the existing house which Greenbox retained with only the beautiful panelled front door giving any indication of the Tardis that lay inside!”
